If you’re new to snowboarding, you’ve probably been handed a board that “reaches your chin” and told you’re good to go.
Maybe the rental shop eyeballed your height, shoved some gear at you, and called it expert advice. Been there. That’s how I ended up on a board that was both too soft and too narrow… I spent half the day catching edges and the other half wondering if I just sucked at snowboarding (I did, but that's besides the point!)
So. You’re not alone—and no, it’s not just you.
Here’s the truth:
Most size advice is outdated, generic, or just plain wrong. Especially if you’re not a 6’0”, 180lb guy who only rides groomers. And don’t get me started on women’s gear—half of it still gets sized like a children’s section.
Weight matters more than height. Boot size matters more than anyone tells you. And riding style? That should be front and center when you’re choosing a board—but it barely gets a mention in most charts.
Why This Site Exists
We built this site out of sheer frustration. We’ve worked in shops, taught lessons, tuned hundreds of boards—and watched countless riders struggle because their gear didn’t fit. And not because they chose badly. Because no one gave them real, helpful, grounded advice.
So that’s what we’re doing here. No cutesy lifestyle content, no half-baked “top 10 snowboards” lists written by someone who’s never strapped in (looking at you Forbes magazine). Just real sizing advice, based on real experience, from actual riders who live this stuff.
Stuff That Should Be Obvious (But Apparently Isn’t)
Here’s a few things we wish more people got told early on:
- Wide boards aren’t just for big guys. If you’ve got size 11 boots, you probably need one—doesn’t matter what else is going on.
- Shorter boards don’t magically make you better. Most people size down too far and end up with a board they can’t trust.
- You don’t need to “grow into” your board. That advice ruins kids. And beginners.
- The “all-mountain” label is slapped on everything. Most of the time? It means the board’s fine, but forgettable. Do your own research.
Not Backed By Brands
We don’t care what some marketing team says is “all-mountain friendly.” We ride the gear. We tweak it. We test widths and shapes and flex ratings in actual conditions. And when something doesn’t work? We say so.
Some brands are doing great things. Some are still pushing sizing advice that would get a rental tech fired. We’re not here to play nice—we’re here to help you ride better.
What To Expect From Us
- Real talk, not marketing sludge
- Tools that actually help—like our snowboard size calculator
- Gear tips that come from years behind the shop counter, not keyboards
- No “best of the year” lists padded with affiliate picks. If it sucks, we say so.
We’re not trying to be influencers. We’re just tired of seeing people waste a season struggling on gear that doesn’t fit—when it’s entirely fixable.
If you’ve ever stood in a shop holding two boards and had no idea which one is right—welcome. We’ve been there. That’s why we built this thing. Stick around. Use the tools. Ask questions. Ride better.
